Read to Your Kids

Most of us parents have thought long and hard about what is the best way to raise our kids, Sometimes those thoughts are overshadowed or dictated by life's circumstances. I'm thinking here about financial restraints that could prevent us from what we feel are the best thing to do for our kids.Even where we live. Not all parents are able to live in the place they chose. Job conditions and even family concerns prevent us from living where we would like to raise our kids. I was asked one time by a friend with a newborn, what is the most important thing I should do in raising my child? My standard answer to that question is usually, tell them about Jesus. In this case since he was of a much different faith than I, I told him to read to the child. Don't wait until the child can understand the words. There are studies showing that reading to a child at a very early age is beneficial. Of course start early and continue reading to develop the love of reading. Give that kid a head start in life I started giving this advise after I had raised my kids. I did read to them some. Thinking back I should have read to the a lot more. I can still remember in their early years reading such books as The Cat in The Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and other books especially about dogs. What I remember most is the giggling and the read it again Daddy. |
