Government of the few, by the few, and for the few.
By Maurice Petersen
The following is is my opinion and I'm sure you have yours. We the people of the United States have made several mistakes in the voting booths over the years. The biggest mistake occurred during the last election. We see a political leader and a bunch of "whatever you say" politicians (the majority in our congress) proposing and trying to pass legislation that is undermining a free society. Legislation has been passed that has a high likely hood of devaluating our currency and put us on par with the banana republics. An attempt was made to ram through a health care bill before the contents of the bill was known or understood. When parts of the bill became known many citizens of this great country were outraged. Many grass roots opposition movements sprang into action. There was even a large physicians march on Washington opposing the proposed health care bill. Several US Senators have labeled the bill as unAmerican as several of the provisions in the bill would take away and/or limit the basic freedoms the citizens of this country have enjoyed. Comments from the few trying to cram this bill through congress were "we are not going to let public opinion stop us from passing this bill" That doesn't sound like government for the people. Several legislators have asked to delay voting on the bill as proposed to allow more time to study the ramification of the bill and to have time to draft a bill that would meet our needs and preserve our freedom. That request was turned down by the majority party. To the majority expediency is more important than preserving our freedom. We have a tremendous country. As we vote we need to think beyond the moment and give thought as to how our vote will affect our lives. |
