Are You Proud or Pleased?
By Mausrice Petersen
This may just be my hangup, but, I think the word proud is often used when pleased would convey the intent. To me I would rather say that I am pleased with an accomplishment rather than say I am proud of my accomplishment. Another way to look at something is I could say I am pleased with way I played the game today. I would have a problem saying I am proud of the way I played today. This may not make a lot of sense, but, I could say I am proud of the way the team played today. Maybe saying pleased rather than proud allows me to think I am somewhat of a humble person whereas saying proud brings up the thought that I am self centered. You do not have to think like this nor do you need to agree with me. That is just my take on the two words. |
